1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module develops your skills and experience as a creative musician by allowing you to establish and interrogate your own interests and agendas as an emerging artist. This will be achieved by producing a substantial portfolio of new creative work (and supporting documentation), alongside a critical commentary which contextualises your work in relation to other current creative practices.
The module aims to:
Enable your practice as a musician with a major project
Advance your critical thinking skills
Provide you with an opportunity to develop your musical specialism
2. Outline syllabus:
You explore the contextual materials and technical means relevant to your specific area of enquiry and tutors mentor you about working independently to further develop your practice. You work closely with your tutor to develop the contexts of your portfolio and are guided to appropriate resources and skills as dictated by the needs of your ideas and your projects. You are also invited to departmental events involving professional composers and ensembles, allowing you to further contextualise your practice with the work of others in the industry.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
You work both independently and with a project supervisor, with whom you meet regularly throughout the module. In addition, you independently prepare aspects of your portfolio for performance and/or recording on completion, and present your work to an audience in an appropriate way (such as a performance, recording, installation or online).
