1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module develops your skills and experience as a performing musician by allowing you to establish and interrogate your own interests and agendas as an emerging artist. You achieve this by deriving and presenting a major performance project or substantial portfolio of smaller performance projects, alongside a critical commentary which contextualises your performance work in relation to other artists and wider practices.
The module aims to:
Enable your practice as a musician with a major project
Advance your critical thinking skills
Provide you with an opportunity to develop your musical specialism
2. Outline syllabus:
You explore the core repertoire and performance practices related to the intention and scope of your performance project(s). You are technically supported on your voice/instrument to meet the specific demands of these materials. You work closely and individually with a tutor to develop the remit and format of your performance(s) and you formalise the contextual space in which your work is located. Tutors guide you to appropriate resources and additional skills, determined by your individual needs.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
You work both independently and with both a project supervisor and an instrumental tutor both of whom you meet regularly throughout the module. In addition, you are encouraged to work independently to research the contextual literatures and repertoires pertaining to your performance project(s), and present your work to an audience in an appropriate way (such as a performance, recording, installation or online).
