1. Brief description and aims of module:
The final stages of BA (Hons) Games Development takes the form of a simulated
games studio. Here you work in teams to create a game with a commercial level of
polish that both reflects the skills you have developed across the course and acts as a
focal point for your portfolio. At large, the ‘Games Studio’ modules help prepare you
for the next stage of your career journey by engaging the production methodologies,
roles and quality expectations of a professional games company. There are two
components: Games Studio Pre-Production, which deals with planning and shaping a
concept, and Games Studio, where your team realises that concept to a commercial
standard.
Following on from your team's efforts in Games Studio Pre-Production, this module
gives you the time and support needed to realise your game. You and your team work
autonomously across the semester to shape your concept to a commercial standing,
drawing on the support and mentorship of lecturers and technical staff to help
maintain progress and production quality. Player experience is lent significant weight
across Games Studio, as is working towards professional standards for quality
assurance (QA). The module, and indeed your undergraduate programme,
culminates in an industry-facing showcase event where you share your game and an
indicative launch plan.

3.Teaching and learning activities:
Class Hours
Games Studio adopts a professional studio model. Your development teams are
expected to work autonomously, and to adhere closely to your production plan. We
recommend that you use class time as a way to organise milestones within your
project, and to gather regular feedback and advice from tutors on appropriate ways of
moving forward. Precisely how you use class time is however up to you and your
team.
Independent Learning
It is critical that you continue to maintain a strong working pace across the module,
and that your team communicates regularly and efficiently outside of class. You
should follow your production schedule defined in your pre-production portfolio while
accounting for the need to adapt your workflow to address implementation
challenges. The most successful project will emerge from teams that invest heavily in
their ideas.
