1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module aims to teach students how to research, write and produce high-quality reports for sports news. Students will learn the techniques, language and regulation of sports journalism and learn how to use appropriate technology along with practical skills. It will reflect the best current practice in broadcasting sport in the UK. The module provides a platform for students to engage creatively across subject areas.
2. Outline syllabus:
Roles and responsibilities of Sports Journalists
Conventions of sports journalism
Understanding the differences in sports journalism outputs
Understanding the codes and conventions of television sports package making
Production of an outside broadcast
Production of live sports show
Interviewing for TV
Presenting and live reporting sport
Mobile journalism
3. Teaching and learning activities:
A combination of seminars, workshops, news days, and newsroom team exercises will contribute to the learning experience in this module. You will research and produce news packages, and will receive individual and group support in the form of tutorial and peer learning exercises. Support will be provided throughout the pre-production, production, post-production and delivery stages of the final live news show.
