1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module is built around the rehearsal and performance of a Musical Theatre Showcase.
The module is the culmination of the programme’s Musical Theatre performance modules and is designed for students who already have a strong level of technical and interpretive skill in the preparation and performance of musical theatre repertoire, and an existing ability to work with sheet music and backing tracks. Entry is therefore by audition (see details below).
2. Outline syllabus:
The module is built around the rehearsal and performance of a formal musical theatre showcase. Entry to the module is by audition, after which staff will work with you to help choose songs suited to your interests and skills. You will then rehearse the numbers under staff guidance in preparation for a final performance.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
The module is highly practical and will largely consist of ongoing tutor-led and independent rehearsal leading towards formative and summative performance presentation.
In addition to the weekly in-class rehearsals, you will be expected to undertake substantial Directed Study tasks each week including research and planning tasks to support and inform your performance work and your understanding of professional practice.
Please note that this is a fast-moving, advanced level performance module and you will be expected to demonstrate an advanced level of professionalism in terms of communication, reliability and keeping on top of the assigned weekly Directed Study tasks.
