1. Brief description and aims of module:
The Dissertation in Criminology offers you an opportunity to carry out a detailed academic investigation in your chosen specialist area of criminology. You might choose to investigate a topic that matches your ideal career, something you have been introduced to in a previous module, or simply something that interests you. The exact nature of your dissertation will depend on the aims, style and focus of the work you decide to carry out and the programme that you are pursuing. You can choose to either a) undertake primary research in the form of a small social science study where you collect and analyse your own data or b) undertake literature-based research where you conduct an in-depth critical review of existing sources of knowledge about your chosen topic.
This module involves independent learning supported by group seminars, online content and regular contact with an allocated supervisor. Successfully completing this module will develop knowledge and skills necessary for a range of graduate careers or postgraduate studies.
