1. Brief description and aims of module:
The Devised Project modules are an opportunity to develop a substantial piece of individual work that acts as the ‘capstone’ of your graduate portfolio. You undertake a practice-led exploration of a topic in computing that should both interest you and have the capacity to showcase the knowledge and skills that you have gained as a student of BSc (Hons) Computing.
Devised Project II extends the work undertaken in Devised Project I to completion. You shift your efforts from topic scoping and initial prototyping to full artefact development and testing, paying special attention to the critical evaluation of your final output. Project supervisors meet with you periodically to review progress, and to offer advice to help you maintain or improve the quality of your work. It is expected that you will retain your current supervisor, however you may renegotiate your allocation (where appropriate) in response to emerging needs.
2. Outline syllabus:
Reviewing outputs of Devised Project I
Revisiting project scheduling
Selecting and deploying appropriate testing strategies
Preparing project work for dissemination
Methods and tools for critical evaluation of output
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Class Hours
You are allocated 4 hours of individual mentorship with your project supervisor. These sessions help ensure that your project remains on track conceptually, technically and in terms of scheduling. Seminars discuss strategies for delivering and documenting outputs, and there are opportunities for students to request smaller group tutorials on topics that cut across projects.
Independent Learning
Progress across Devised Project II is managed independently. You hold responsibility for managing your efforts, overcoming technical challenges, and scheduling review sessions with your project supervisor.
