1. Brief description and aims of module:
Creative Project is an applied computing module where the output is a substantial creative artefact with an emphasis on originality and user experience. This may take the form of a computing tool, a game, an animation, a web application, a digital performance, a VR experience, installation or some other form of digital creativity. Creative Projects gives you an opportunity to create a key output for an industry-facing creative portfolio. It’s recommended you pick a project that is going to ‘speak to’ the kind of companies that you hope to work for in the future. It is vital that you put effort into ensuring that your work represents the very best that you can do.
You will begin by reviewing a selection of potential ideas, before planning the chosen idea with relevant pre-production materials and identifying an audience demographic. Attention will then turn to full project development, supported by regular supervisory and peer review sessions. This continual iteration and refinement affords the framework to produce high quality outputs ready for public audiences.
The module is largely self-directed, however you will be allocated a supervisor to help manage and advise on your project. The cohort comes together at several points across the semester to generate ideas, evaluate existing creative artefacts, share insights, and peer review project development.
2. Outline syllabus:
Critical evaluation of existing creative artefacts
Idea generation
Project Pitching and Review
Research and Development
Scoping ideas
Project prototyping
Project development
Usability testing
Peer Review
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Class Hours
A series of idea generation, project management and peer review sessions are offered to Creative Project students. These sessions focus on key aspects of the project delivery including ideation, planning, testing and critical evaluation.
Independent Learning
Creative Project is largely independently led. The class hours and supervisory support will provide guidance and structure, however ultimately successful negotiation of the module is down to you. You should allocate time each week throughout the module to ensure progress is made steadily. We encourage you to meet your supervisor regularly and be open to the critical evaluation of peers to improve the quality of your work. With effective time management and engagement with the module, Creative Project outputs have the potential to be cornerstone pieces of your creative computing portfolio
