1.Brief description and aims of module:
The aim of this module is to provide you with an understanding of selected recent developments in economic theory and policy. On completion of this module you should be able to appreciate the relevance of these developments, evaluate them and be able to apply them to practical economic issues. The content of the module may change over time depending on student and teacher preferences, but subjects likely to be covered could include for example; economics of terrorism, economics of migration, economics of corruption, trade theories and trade policies, international development, the economics of happiness. These should not be seen as a definitive list of topics but rather, to give you an idea of the type of topics we will be discussing.
In this module you will be developing the following Graduate Attributes:

2.Outline syllabus:
The module syllabus will cover:
International trade and theories of trade
The economics of terrorism
Firms in a global economy and economics of migration
Economics of corruption and modern day slavery
Trade agreements and WTO
Economics of HIV/AIDS and economics of Pandemics
Measuring happiness: Alternative approaches to measuring welfare. The effects of income on happiness. Policy implications from happiness research.
3.Teaching and learning activities:
There will be a one-hour lecture and a two-hour seminar each week. Attendance is expected at the lecture and the two hour seminar required. Students are also expected to work independently, undertake any required background reading or practice exercises and actively participate in other small group work.
