1.Brief description and aims of module:
This module provides you the opportunity to identify and select a fashion related issue and investigate it independently. You will be encouraged to work with a real business – maybe an existing employer or a placement provider; alternatively, you can carry out your research in an academic related topic. Whatever you choose, you will define a clear research question and identify the objectives of your research and create your own output criteria. You will then review and synthesise existing knowledge in a literature review. You will design the method and collect the data. Your data will then be analysed and critically discussed in relation to your research question and objectives. Your findings will be shared with your colleagues at an end of year project event.
In this module, you will be able to demonstrate the following Graduate Attributes:
Employable, equipped with the skills necessary to flourish in the global workplace, able to work in and lead teams.
Critical thinkers: able to express their ideas in written and oral form, and possessing information literacy.
Ethically aware: prepared for citizenship in a local, national and global context.
2.Outline syllabus:
In this module you will acquire a detailed knowledge of your chosen fashion topic. We will give guidance on how to formulate and clarify your project ideas. You will be taught how to search and critically evaluate the literature. Research design and data collection techniques (quantitative and qualitative) will be explained. You will learn about the importance of ethics in project design. You will be shown how to select samples, collect primary data and analyse your findings.
3.Teaching and learning activities:
You will be allocated a supervising tutor who, by means of 1-1 tutorial sessions with you, will supervise the project you undertake and who will help guide your final output. You will be expected to critically discuss your ideas and engage in debate to progress your research with your supervising tutor. You will also attend a one hour seminar every week covering ‘research methods/project skills/employability’ or alternatively, attend a 1 hour workshop to support your adobe skills. We want to offer you all the assistance we can in securing a graduate role with great career prospects and we have arranged a series of employability seminars to take place in a number of the seminar slots - introduction to graduate schemes, skills and CVs and interviews and assessment centres.
