1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module aims to provide students with an understanding of global marine ecosystems and organisms and the interactions between these and human societies. We will then consider the threats faced by marine ecosystems and conservation efforts can mitigate these.
2. Outline syllabus
We will cover topics such as:
Global marine patterns
Benthic communities
Pelagic communities
Coral reef communities
Marine mammals
Marine animal behaviour
The physiology of marine life
Threats to marine ecosystems
Human interactions with marine environments
3. Teaching and learning activities
Teaching will be provided through lectures, seminars, field trips and directed self-study/practice.
