1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module spans both semesters and takes you through the full process of a directed play from audition process, preparation and rehearsals to a production of a professional performance standard. It also requires you to establish a clear understanding of the self-promotional material required to support a professional citing career. This module aims to:
Provide a professional working environment appropriate for a directed play
Foster a positive approach to collaborative working and practice
Advance your ability to work to an industry standard
2. Outline syllabus:
This module places you as an actor in a play directed by a professional theatre director to test your ability to work collaboratively, under timed conditions, and in a way that mirrors industry practice. It also connects the work you do as an actor with those of design, technical, management, music and other production elements, thereby advancing the collaborative and performance focused work of Module ACT5023-20 with the addition of the wider production team.
The module follows the industry-standard expectations of an actor being cast in a role in a theatre production. Therefore you are required to have all your self-promotional material ready for the audition/workshop process, and one cast, research and prepare for rehearsals. The process of rehearsal and production will simulate the time pressured nature of the professional working environment along with social media and marketing expectations.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
While there is some lecture/seminar delivery to detail the process of actor self-management (such as headshots, CVs, websites, personal management, etc.) the core to the process is an intensive production process.
Your production portfolio will therefore consist of you working the production supported by your self-promotional materials and self-reflection/Viva Voce.
