1.Brief description and aims of module
This module continues the in-depth study of the theory and practice of TESOL and, similar to TES7102-30, incorporates a placement in a school with observation and observed teaching practice.
By taking this module you will engage critically with second language acquisition and learning; current ELT methodologies in relation to linguistic, learning and interaction theories; learner styles and strategies; materials evaluation; syllabus design; cultural contexts and classroom based research.
The module will provide opportunities to specialise your study within the field of ELT (English Language Teaching) through individual focus in assessment tasks. Possible specialist areas are: teaching Young Learners; teaching Business English; teaching English for Academic Purposes; and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL).
2.Outline syllabus
The framework for the module is broadly communicative continuing the work of TES7102-30 on the four skills from a wider context considering the nature of language learning processes and the varied cultural contexts that inform professional practice in TESOL. You will engage critically with readings and reports while reflecting on professional teaching experience. The module will aid you in identifying researchable issues in English language teaching and learning.
3.Teaching and learning activities
Teaching and learning methods utilised include student led seminars, workshops, directed classroom-based activities and discussion.
