1.Brief description and aims of module
Development of sampling and research into ideas in the relevant product area.
You will be encouraged to experiment and investigate, researching ideas to produce marketable products or work, which expands the boundaries of the fashion and textiles field. This will be a programme negotiated and agreed with staff and will build on earlier modules.
Students interested in making for markets will develop studio work, relevant concepts and be aware of market requirements including positioning, costing and promotion of product. At this stage, some students may be ready to test the product on the market.
Alternatively, some may propose to investigate new areas of fashion and textiles through a research proposal and completing initial ideas and directions. This proposal may be presented to peers and the School’s researchers for feedback and assessment before proceeding to the Masters Project.
2.Outline syllabus
Students will outline an individually negotiated proposal of selfdirected study, and will take an experimental approach to advancing fashion and/or textile techniques and the design process for a course work portfolio.
The module may include presentations from industry professionals and/or research experts in the subject.
Studio space and specialist workshop facilities will provide the environment for planning and implementing tasks autonomously.
Students will communicate concepts, methods and contemporary thinking in group tutorials with peers and tutors, so that lines of enquiry can be explored and critiqued.
