1. Brief description and aims of module
Psychology is an applied discipline, and in this module, we look at practical ways to intervene in a patient or client’s life to help with their specific problems. We aim to give you an overview of several methods and perspectives in the toolbox of the applied Psychologist. We will also look at ways of attempting to prevent mental and physical health-related disorders.
2. Outline syllabus
Potential topics include: An introduction to rehabilitation and intervention; the clinical interview; methods of assessment in health and clinical psychology; working with groups; the rehabilitation/intervention toolkit; behavioural interventions; experience-dependent plasticity and guided plasticity; psychosexual rehabilitation; the family and wider social context of rehabilitation/intervention; mental health and wellbeing; stigma; the role of employment in recovery.
