1. Brief description and aims of module
This module will examine the role of psychology in the identification and treatment of the different kinds of mental distress. We will also look at the way that neuropsychology can offer a unique perspective in this area by contrasting psychiatric conditions with the more organic disorders. We will also look at mindfulness and assess its contribution in the treatment of mental distress. This module offers a unique perspective that will enhance the student’s ability to work in this field. An aim of this module is to teach students the advanced searching skills they will need at this level of level of study and beyond.

The module will be comprised of lectures and seminars. Seminar material will included a Reader of journal articles for class discussion. There will be two timetabled individual tutorial appointments during the course of this module.
