2.Outline syllabus
The Research Project is the main component of the MRes. You will undertake an extended period of research that demonstrates a systematic understanding of knowledge, and a critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights in your given area of study. This work should be at, or informed by, the forefront of the academic discipline, field of study or area of professional practice. It culminates in the submission of a thesis or a portfolio of creative practice with a written commentary that evidences the research component of the work. You will develop your project over the full duration of the course, informed and supported by weekly seminars and/or tutorials, as well as engagement with relevant University research centres and groups.
3.Teaching and learning activities
Seminars include tutor-led presentations and group discussion, as well as discussion of your work-in-progress with the class. Some sessions may be led by visiting academics and practitioners. Research centre/group seminars are available to attend during the module to offer additional context for your work. The tutorials present an opportunity to get focused feedback on your work throughout the module.
The module concludes with a research project of 25,000-30,000 words, or a portfolio of work or works. These will be negotiated in the early stages of the module.
