1.Brief description and aims of module:
This module is open to singers, instrumentalists, répétiteurs and conductors. You will be auditioned for roles or duties in an opera or scenes from an opera to be staged on campus or elsewhere. You will be involved in the production and perform in public. You are expected to have prior experience in operatic performance.
The module aims to:
Provide a performance environment for opera
Foster an understanding of the processes of opera production
Develop existing operatic practice
2.Outline syllabus:
The project is carried out as a group collaboration. You will take a full part in the production as performer or conductor. You will be given guidance in audition techniques, stagecraft and acting by the director and other staff members. You will also receive vocal coaching to support your role as required. Roles will be allocated by the module leader. The module aims to:
Provide a professionally focussed performance environment
Foster a practical appreciation of opera styles and performance techniques
Examine the form and demands of opera performance
3.Teaching and learning activities:
Directed group sessions with module leader or other staff in which you will rehearse and stage opera scenes leading to a production. You work individually and collaboratively with other students and staff on their roles.
