1.Brief description and aims of module
This module concerns itself with interdisciplinary practice with a emphasis on screen-based, performance making. We encourage you to draw on other media as part of your creative work, for example writing, painting, textiles or sound-making.
The module aims to:
2.Outline syllabus
This module allows for the exploration of interdisciplinary practice. It presumes that interdisciplinary work might exist at the interface of dance and at least one other medium, primarily in this instance film, but it might also include writing, painting, textiles, or it may involve practice not normally associated with the Arts such as engineering, chemistry, or architecture. Screen-based performance, in the context of this module, focuses on ‘screendance’ as a creative interface between the body and digital technology to design and produce work for the single screen.
There will be opportunities to interrogate the practice of a range of artists working in the field, historical and contemporary, as well as your own work and that of your peers. You will be encouraged to be experimental in your approach, and to consider choreography, in the context of screendance, as practice that occurs in front of the lens, in the camera, and in the process of editing. A range of opportunities exist for getting film work screened, both nationally and internationally, and you will be encouraged to submit your work to appropriate platforms.
3.Teaching and learning activities
Teaching is conducted through both practical workshops and online tutorials. You may choose to use locations of your own choice or university editing and performance spaces.
