1.Brief description and aims of module
How do heritage organisations manage their resources? What kind of decisions do they make? What services do they provide? For whom? How do they measure success?
This module is intended to provide an introduction to the wide range of skills, expertise, approaches and disciplines that form part of ‘managing heritage’. The content of the module reflects current challenges and priorities within the sector, as well as current thinking about what constitutes good and effective practice. This might relate to: audience research and development; learning, interpretation and public programming; conservation, collections care and collections management; marketing; advocacy; funding and fundraising; volunteer recruitment, training and development; standards and benchmarking; project planning and management.
2.Outline syllabus
This module covers a number of aspects of professional practice, including, but not limited to:
Heritage education and learning
Heritage, health and well-being
Heritage interpretation
Public engagement and participatory practice
Collections management
Funding, fundraising and advocacy
Income generation
Sustainability and resilience
Project planning, implementation and evaluation
Precise content is adjusted in light of current priorities within the sector, and opportunities to relate our work to live projects and events.
3.Teaching and learning activities
This module is led by practitioners working in the field, through a series of seminars or longer workshops.
