1.Brief description and aims of module
This module covers the process of supervising research projects as a high level teaching skill. It will focus predominantly on supervising doctoral research projects but will also explore supervisory practice for MA and BA dissertations. It will cover national and institutional expectations with respect to research degree programmes (including QAA UK Quality Code and BSU Research Degree Regulations) and develop theoretical and practical knowledge of the supervisory process and expectations.
This module is a sensible follow up to the PGCert/HEA fellowships for academics, or as part of professional development for experienced and research focused staff aiming to enhance and prepared for supervision. It aligns to these other modules in its development of necessary academic skills for academics following either a Research or Teaching focused pathway.
2.Outline syllabus
This module explores the role of the supervisor (from BA to PhD) in HEIs and specifically at BSU. It covers a variety of pedagogical approaches and provides practical advice and guidance from experienced supervisors while also ensuring that you reflect on yourr own practical experience and developing methodology for supervising research students.
