1.Brief description and aims of module
One of the key practices of leadership is the development of others. Coaching and mentoring are two distinctive and complementary ways to do this. Each approach has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. This module is designed to provide you with an understanding of the differences between coaching, mentoring and how they can be used effectively. This module has a practical component and there will be an opportunity to develop coaching and mentoring skills both in the sessions and within your school or setting. These experiences will enable you to reflect critically on what constitutes effective coaching and mentoring and the contribution they can make to the practice of leadership. You will be asked to complete a reflective journal throughout the module.

Teaching and learning methods utilised include seminars, workshops, directed classroom-based activities, peer teaching and the completion of a reflective journal.
