1.Brief description and aims of module
This module follows on from EDU7102-15 and acts as a prerequisite to completing the final stage EDU7104-60 or for those exiting with the PGDip. The project proposal part needs to be completed by students registered for MA.
The module is aimed at preparing you to be a researcher. This includes developing the ability to design a piece of research with appropriate methods and to write a research proposal in the form of an action plan.
2.Outline syllabus
Data collection and analysis; what is a research proposal? Working towards your research aims and key questions; identifying your research paradigm; ethical issues; literature review; outline of research proposal; writing up; developing your analytical skills.
3.Teaching and learning activities
The module is divided into 10 reading tasks. Reading tasks 1 and 2 of the module concentrate on developing your skills for data collection and analysis research methods,
whilst reading tasks 3 to 10 focus on preparing you for your main project proposal. You are expected to work through these tasks on your own with the support of your tutor who, through the process of supervising you, will direct you to particular reading tasks as appropriate. There are two key stages during the module for when you will need to obtain specific guidance from your research project dissertation supervisor before proceeding to the next reading task: after reading task 4 (research aims and questions) and reading task 8 (research proposal).
