1.Brief description and aims of module
This represents the culmination of your work through three trimesters – normally the completion of all or a substantial portion of the writing project begun in the Writing Workshops of Trimesters 1 and 2, though students may at the discretion of the Course Director be allowed to begin a new manuscript for this module.
2.Outline syllabus
You are expected to use the combination of skills gained in earlier modules to write either a finished book or a substantial portion of one, within the word limit allowed. ‘Book’ here might mean a novel, a work of non-fiction, a collection of short stories or picture book texts. In the case of work for younger ages it might include more than one book, by agreement with the manuscript tutor on the quantity of work this represents. The aim is that at the end of the course you will have realistic and attainable plans for finishing the project, and that it will be as near to publishable quality as possible.
3.Teaching and learning activities
Teaching is by one-to-one tutorials. You will be assigned a tutor (‘manuscript supervisor’) and are entitled to eight hours of tutorial time, to be arranged by you and your tutor at your mutual convenience. This time will usually be taken in a mixture of face-to-face, online and postal discussion, as agreed between you and your tutor. Tutors will discuss with you any aspect of the developing project that needs attention, help you to set goals and monitor progress carefully.
