1.Brief description and aims of module
This module enables you to engage with current criminological research. You will gain in-depth knowledge of key questions and central problems in criminology, policing and criminal justice and understanding of how research is driven by enduring debates and new issues challenging criminal justice and penal policy. You will consider the ways in which research can test theories and hypotheses about crime, how research can stimulate and inform public debate and think critically about the relationship between criminologists and policy-makers. Criminology increases our knowledge about crime, yet despite the growth of criminological research in the last few decades, crime remains a pressing social problem. This module will encourage you to examine and reflect upon this conundrum and the potential and limitations of crime research.
