1.Brief description and aims of module
This module explores the contribution of entrepreneurship and of individual entrepreneurs to future organisational growth and sustainability. It defines the different role of the entrepreneur in different organisational contexts – small, medium and international entrepreneurs – and identifies the necessary requirements associated with the creation and management of an entrepreneurial culture.

2.Outline syllabus
The module defines an entrepreneur, entrepreneurship, and the necessary conditions for the development and management of an entrepreneurial culture.
The key attributes and skills associated with entrepreneurs are analysed and applied to the different stages of organisational development from start-up to maturity.
The concept of innovation is explored and quantified – assessing its critical role in the adoption of new ideas and opportunities.
The barriers to entrepreneurial endeavour are identified and contrasted through case study analysis with exemplars of success.
The link between entrepreneurship and the core business disciplines are identified and debated alongside societal pressures and the growing impact of globalisation and internationalisation.
New and emergent forms of entrepreneurship in social enterprise, cross sector partnership and international entrepreneurship are identified and analysed.
3.Teaching and learning activities
The module will include a mix of tutor input, lectures, case studies, group work and discussion. The style will be interactive and there will be an emphasis on application and critical interpretation. Additional selected readings designed to support learning and understanding will be presented as the module develops.
