1.Brief description and aims of module
This module is core to all Art and Design Pathways across Bath School of Art and Design; it is an introduction to Practice as Research providing generic key principles, knowledge and processes appropriate to the fields of Art and Design.
The module will provide you with an exploration of aspects of research in order that you as a creative practitioner (artist, designer, maker, curator or strategist) understand knowledge and meaning thereby developing a fuller sense of authority in the pursuit of your individual interests.
Critical awareness and insights into your own research will be built upon, as well as an ability to evaluate current research. An understanding of methodologies, methods and their critique will enable you to have a practical understanding of how research methodologies are used to both create and interpret knowledge within your discipline.
2.Outline syllabus
A series of lectures, talks and discussions will introduce and engage with ideas of research through outlining established models of academic enquiry, both practical and intellectual; proposing ways through which identification and use of research resources and skills, may be used so that output and ideas are articulated and communicated through a variety of means to support and enrich your (studio) practice.
