Program Overview

Advantages of the BASD Cyber Academy:

  • 100% asynchronous instruction provides for maximum schedule flexibility.

  • All coursework is completed independently - students can work at their own pace and can choose work ahead in their courses if wish.

  • There is no mandatory daily “live” synchronous instruction, but daily office hours provide support from instructors when needed.

  • Real-time feedback on pacing and academic progress is always available to students, parents, guardians, and school counselors.

  • On-demand chat based tutoring is available 7 days per week.

  • Students may take a blended schedule, with a combination of Cyber Academy and in person courses.

  • Students remain members of their school community and are encouraged to participate in athletics, performing arts, and other extra-curricular activities. Students maintain their connection to their BASD School Counselor, and have access to all supports and resources that in-person students enjoy.

  • Upon graduation, BASD Cyber Academy students receive a BASD diploma.

Things to consider:

  • In order to maintain recommended pacing, High School students should expect to spend 1.5 to 2 hours per Cyber Academy Course per day. For a student taking 4 courses, this means 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.

  • In order to maintain recommended pacing, Middle School students should expect to spend 1 to 1.5 hours per course per day. For a student taking 5 courses, this means 7.5 hours per day, or 37.5 hours per week.

  • Recommended pacing does not include weekends or holidays. That means any time spent actively working in courses on those days is will reduce the weekday demands in terms of keeping up with recommended pacing.

  • Office hours and on-demand tutor are excellent supports, but students must take advantage of them to reap the benefits they provide.

  • First time students in the BASD Cyber Academy must pass all Core Subject Area courses during their first semester in order to remain enrolled in the program.
