Policies and Procedures

Attendance

Students in BASD Cyber Academy follow the Bethlehem Area School District attendance policy. For attendance purposes, all students are required to log in a minimum of five times on five different days during a typical week. A week starts on Sunday at 12:00AM and ends the following Saturday at 11:59PM. Attendance is reported to the school district weekly, and parent excuse notes are required if the student is present fewer than the required number of days each week. Adjustments to the number of expected logins each week will be made if there are holidays or closings due to inclement weather.

Students are not required to be present in a homeroom session nor are they required to log in at a specific time. For attendance purposes, there is no required length of time that students must be logged in to the system.

Communication

Students are encouraged to check this web site regularly for updates and important information. BASD Guidance Counselors will be the primary point of contact for students for communication to and from the school, and will assist with questions about scheduling courses, report card grades, graduation, and state testing.

Grading

All students may access their coursework 24 hours a day / 7 days per week. Even though there is no required length of time that students must be logged in each day, for academic purposes, students are strongly encouraged to spend 1-2 hours per day on each course in order to make sufficient progress toward completion of their courses. Students should be sure to follow the progress bar in each course so that they know if they're behind, on track, or ahead of schedule. Grades and feedback are provided by highly-qualified, Pennsylvania certified teachers. Some assignments are scored immediately by the learning management system; others are scored by teachers within 72 hours of submission. Students and their parents/guardians have access to the online gradebook to view the student's overall grade in the course as well as his/her scores on individual assignments. Grades are delivered via e-mail through weekly progress reports to parents, guidance counselors, and administrators. Students and parents will be instructed by Pennsylvania certified, highly-qualified teachers in each subject area, and will be able to contact them via e-mail, phone, text, or SIS messaging with any academic questions or concerns. Concept coaches are available from 7:00AM to 11:00PM, six days per week, to provide general assistance to students.
