The following are some skills that are taught throughout Second Step Lessons during Guidance special.

K-5 learn different ways to control their emotions. The "Stop - Name your feeling - Calm down" method is one way to teach students to grasp what they are feeling and how to prevent themselves from "flipping their lid" another Second Step Term.
Problem solving steps are taught in grade 2-5.
Students learn a non-blaming way to discuss friendship problems and come to a safe solution together
Empathy is the base to many lessons. For students to understand how others are feeling and how that may effect the way they are acting is beneficial to knowing how to act and respond appropriately to others.
