While we have no active international service projects at the moment, we remain motivated and prepared to engage when the next fitting opportunity arises (please inquire if you are in need with a potential fitting project). Some past projects are noted below.
Strosnider led a prolonged campaign to characterize and then pilot solutions for severe metal and metalloid contamination in Potosi, Bolivia. The site of the world's largest silver deposit, the legacy of over five centuries of intensive mining exploitation persists, as unique pollution signatures overlie and exacerbate each other in this high altitude desert ecosystem. Pollution risks from ongoing mine drainage discharges were characterized and more sustainable treatment options were piloted via substantial contributions from the Universidad Autonoma Tomas Frias, Engineers In Action, Penn State University, the University of Oklahoma, Saint Francis University, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, regional/local governments, Rotary International, Rotary Clubs in Oklahoma and Texas, Cardinal Engineering, and BioMost Inc.
Strosnider has focused his international service on Latin America. Other efforts have included:
Drinking water contamination and health impacts in seasonally-flooded quarters of Iquitos (Peru) in collaboration with Penn State University Global Health Scholars and faculty.
EcoLatrines for a rural community in the Bolivian Altiplano (Cotani) in support of Engineers In Action.
Drinking water system surveying and redesign (Yulo, Bolivia) in support of Engineers In Action.
Drinking water system troubleshooting (Rio Bravo, Guatemala) in support of Sooners Without Borders.
