All TIA districts must have valid and reliable data for teachers to earn designations, and districts receive allotments.

Steps to Data Validation

Data Collection

August to May

BOY data must be collected in the first 12 weeks of school. EOY data must be collected in the last 9 weeks of the school year.

Data collection starts over each year.

Data Preparation

May to August

Districts compile the student growth and teacher observation data to determine cut points for designations. These cut points are often adjusted to ensure the data will be validated with Texas Tech.

Districts must ensure their data is valid and reliable prior to submission.

Data Submission

October 16th

Districts will submit two numbers for every teacher:

-Percentage of students who achieved their targeted growth for the year

-Average of all 8 dimensions in domains 2 & 3 (see teacher observation tab for more information)

Districts will be notified of system approvals in the Spring of the following year.

Potential Data System Outcomes

System Validated

Teachers who are designated by their district will keep that distinction for five years. During that time, the district will receive allotment funding each year for every designated teacher. Each district has already decided how those funds will be used, based on what they outlined in their TIA plan.

System NOT Validated

Whether a district's data is validated or not, they’ll receive a report from TEA outlining the results. If the system isn’t approved, the report will explain the reasons and highlight areas for improvement. The district can then collect data again and resubmit the next year, making the necessary changes to strengthen the validity and reliability of their system.
