Hi folks, this week we are running a mountain skills training workshop!
If you’d like to learn the key skills required to navigate and keep yourself safe in the mountains, then this is for you! We will cover navigation, preparing for hikes, planning hikes, and some emergency procedures. This is open to all UMWC members, no previous experience required.
The training workshop will take place over two sessions:
An indoor theory session on Friday 6th at 6:10pm at the Student's Union, Pontio Level 4.
A day in the hills where we will put the skills into practice on Saturday 7th.
This hill walk will take all day. Please wear appropriate mountain attire - walking boots, waterproofs, and lots of warm layers - otherwise you won’t be allowed on the walk. The weather forecast is very cold, so make sure to wrap up warm! If you need to borrow any kit, you can request it on the sign-up form (Make sure to put your size!!)

Please ensure you are available for both days to get the most out of the training. If you’re not going to be available, don’t worry; we will be running more mountain skills workshops over the next few months. This is a great first step for anyone interested in becoming a UMWC leader.
Hope to see you there.
Jake, UMWC G&S and training officer.
