Women got treated less than men.
“In almost every professional field, in business and in the arts and sciences, women are still treated as second-class citizens. It would be a great service to tell girls who plan to work in society to expect this subtle, uncomfortable discrimination--tell them not to be quiet, and hope it will go away, but fight it. A girl should not expect special privileges because of her sex, but neither should she "adjust" to prejudice and discrimination”(Friedman).
“If most mothers followed her advice, divorce and juvenile delinquency would increase tremendously”(Time).
Women noticed that they were still getting treated more poorly than men. They would not be taken seriously in lines of work. Their pay would be different and it would be more difficult for them to get jobs. Just because they were women they were told to be quiet. Women were tired of getting treated poorly. Some people thought that because of this book it would cause divorce, because it would interrupt families. It made it seem like women were made to be housewives.
