The African Americans got punishments during the mid- 1800s.
”Apologists for lynching claimed that they were punishment for such crimes as murder and especially rape. But careful analysis has shown that a third of the victims were not even accused of rape or murder; in fact, many of the charges of rape were fabrication” (Digital History).
African Americans are getting punished in this time period. The African Americans' lives were really bad for them. They got accused of rape or murder but most charges of rape were made up.
