Then this might be just the thing for you. Athletic Trainers are Allied Healthcare Professionals. We are directly involved in the healthcare of the student athletes at Bandera High School and Middle School. You will learn valuable skills that will teach you how to be a sports medicine professional and pursue a career in the medical field.
There are even scholarship opportunities available for you to go to college. Oh, and did I mention you can qualify to receive a letter jacket if you stick with the program. Yup, its true!
Assist the BHS Athletic Trainer with taping, setting up water stations, providing first aid, injury notification to the Athletic Trainer, stretching, and every day activities in the athletic training room.Â
You will be expected to work hard and be dedicated. Playing sports and being an Athletic Training Student Assistant can be challenging with time management. You will be held accountable for your grades just like athletes.
You will get to work with two sports teams during the year and possibly more.
You will learn:
First Aid Skills
How to tape ankles, wrists and thumbs
Rehabilitation and evaluation skills of athletic injuries
How to be a leader and to be responsible
There will be times when you are here before school or after school so transportation is important. If you do not drive then you need reliable transportation that can drop you off and pick you up.
You will need to maintain your grades (passing) and have no disciplinary issues (ISS/OSS/AEP).
The recommended course work is as follows:
