The change of a 4 day week will involve adjustments to instructional schedules aimed at providing more time in class and accommodating the needs of students.
In the secondary level, class periods will be extended from 48 minutes to approximately 57 minutes. This increase allows for more instructional time, which is beneficial for students' learning. Additionally, the shift to a four-day week means that students will spend more time in class, reducing the instances of absences, especially among athletes who typically miss school on Fridays for competitions.
At the middle school level, there will be a transition from a block schedule to an eight-period day with 50-minute classes. This change provides a more structured and consistent schedule for students, facilitating better academic planning and organization.
6th grader schedules will look slightly different than 7th and 8th graders as they will double block English & Math.
In the elementary grades, there will be additional emphasis on incorporating brain breaks and adjustment time for younger students. This includes adding extra recess breaks for kindergarten through first grade students, allowing them to recharge and refocus throughout the day.
Once we have built a sample instructional day for both Elementary and Secondary, we will post them here for your reference.
Overall, the move to a four-day week and adjustments to instructional schedules are designed to enhance the learning experience for students at all grade levels within the Bandera ISD, promoting academic achievement and well-being.
