BWPC JUNIOR REFEREE MENTOR PROGRAM
In conjunction with the Water Polo Carnival, we run a Junior Referee Mentor program where by our young players can get a taste for refereeing under the one on one guidance of senior experienced referees.
Young referees aged 14 and over can use the carnival as part of the process to being accreditated. The program is a recognised by both WPNSW & WPA as an officials pathway.
The referees must also undertake duties and competencies in table officiating also.

EVENT - BWPC 12 Years & Under Water Polo Carnival Junior Referee Program
PRE-EVENT INDUCTION: Friday, 2 January 2026, 2:30pm - 4:30pm @ Dawny
CARNIVAL DATES - 3 - 5 January 2026
CARNIVAL TIMES - 8:30am - 4pm
VENUE: Dawn Fraser Baths - Fitzroy Avenue, Balmain

UNIFORM: You will be provided with an "Officials" t-shirt - this must be worn when on duty. Please wear neat shorts/skirt, enclosed shoes (no thongs) and a hat. Sunglasses are optional but recommended.
WHISTLE: Ensure you have your own pealess plastic whistle (no metal whistles). If you need one - you can order online and collect & pay on the Thursday at the induction, https://forms.gle/iAxAjjFr3Rt44epj6
RED & YELLOW CARDS: Ensure you own a set. If you need one - you can order online and collect & pay on the Friday at the induction, https://forms.gle/iAxAjjFr3Rt44epj6
OTHER: Please bring a drink bottle. There will be water tub for all officials to fill their bottles. Bring your own lunch/money to buy. You will need sunscreen. Towel & cossie recommended - to cool off.
COMMUNICATION: We will be setting up a WhatsApp group for communication
REFEREE AREA: An allocated area for the Junior referees will be marked out at the waterside wharf end of the pool under the stairs. Your belongings may be left neatly here. We respect one another's property.
JUNIOR REFEREE DUTIES: Referees must be familiar with all aspects of the game. The referees will assist with the pool set up from 8:15am each day and the pool pack up after the last game.
Junior referees will also be mentored in how to complete a game card. Each referee will also be required to do table duties.
Junior referees will be contactable throughout the time of the carnival and be familiar with the roster.
For referees 14 years and over, you may use this event to work towards your official accreditation. However, prior to the event you must do the following:

Click on Referees
Enrol in Community Referee
Work your way through these modules please note - as you are under 18 you do not need a Working With Children Check
Let the Referee Coordinator know you wish to start your assessment at the induction.
Over the course of the carnival, you will need to complete the observation Task & the Shadow Task (we will provide the forms). From this point there are 2 outcomes -
1. You will need to go on to have more practical experience -eg referee under 12 games, training games etc then contact WPNSW for a practical experience on 14B games followed by a practical assessment
2. Or - if you have been refereeing school games, Under 12s, training games etc and the assessors think you are ready, they will recommend you be assessed on one of your games,
