PLAYING RULES
Water Polo NSW & World Aquatic rules with the following modifications:
Pool length 20m and width 15m – 2 fields to be used
6 players in the water – one goalie and 5 field players
Ball size 3 used
Maximum 10 players to be used per game, Minimum of 8. In the case of insufficient players, additional players will be allocated by the Carnival Director
35 second shot clock
No 5 metre penalties – exclusions only apply
No goals scored from free throws or from the defending half
Exclusion - move to allocated corner, touch marker & return to play
An attacking player in front of goals will be given every opportunity to shoot and score before an exclusion is called (Modification to World Aquatics rules for this competition only)
Players will be encouraged to play the ball after a free throw in a timely manner
CARNIVAL RULES
No player to play for 2 teams unless under the direction of Carnival Director
Players and/or teams may be regraded at the discretion of the Carnival Director
Any changes to players, cap numbers etc must be lodged with Control before games
Players must use the same number cap as in program for whole carnival i.e 2 -11. Goalkeeper must be rotated. Goalkeeper must be changed at half time. Goal keeper’s Field cap number must be recorded on score card.
First team mentioned on draw to wear white/light caps and start at pontoon/deck end of field.
Teams must be ready to start at allocated time. Both pools start simultaneously
Round games, Semis and Playoffs to be 7 minute halves with 2 minute break between 1st & 2nd halves. 4 minutes between games. Teams do not change ends at the end of halves. Referees do.
Grand Finals to be 4 minute quarters with 1 minute break between 1st & 2nd Quarter and 3rd & 4th Quarter. 2 minute break at half time. 5 minutes break between games. Teams change ends at half time.
Teams to provide their own caps.
All balls must be returned to tubs at the conclusion of the game. Each Team must nominate two MVPs for opposing team at conclusion of each game. 3 points & 1 point. Record against the opposing team list.
All teams to play minimum of 7 games
Carnival Officials will be in officials’ shirts
The referee is always RIGHT !!!!
20-1 Point score in all divisions: Win – 3 points,
Draw – 2 points,
Loss – 1 point,
Forfeit/Disqualification – 0 points.
20-2 In any competitions in which teams play different numbers of games, competition points gained will be divided by the number of possible competition points and multiplied by 100 to give a “percentage of possible points”. N/A
20-3 Positions in round or playoff games will be decided on points.
(a) If two (2) teams shall have equal points, further classification shall be established as follows:
(i) The team winning the games between the two (2) teams shall be placed higher. First on game results then if still even on goal difference in those games between the two teams
(ii) If the games between the two (2) teams resulted in a tie, a further classification shall be established based on their results against the other teams in order of their ranking; first based upon goal difference, and next, based upon goals scored. The comparison shall be made first, compared to the highest team, and then, if still tied to the next highest team, and so on.
(b) If three (3) or more teams shall have equal points, further classification shall be established as follows:
(i) The results among the tied teams shall determine the placings. The comparison shall be made upon first, the points of the games among them, next, the goal difference, and next, based upon goals scored to establish first in the group.
(ii) If more than two (2) teams are then still tied, a further classification shall be established based on their results against the other teams in order of their ranking; first, based upon goal difference, and next based upon goal scored. The comparison shall be made first, compared to the highest team, and then, if still tied, to the next highest team, and so on. If the teams in question do not play the top team the same number of times then it is the average goal difference that is compared.
20-4 Results in Semi Finals & Grand Finals will be decided on goals scored
(a) If two (2) teams finish the game with equal goals, further classification shall be established as follows:
(i) Up to an additional 1minute running time shall be played. The first team to score a goal shall be declared the winner.
(ii) If the teams are still tied after the 1minute extra time, the highest placed team in the rounds will be declared the winner.
