Help us congratulate Charles Adams and Gabriela Asbury, with the help of
Dale Rice, for securing 2nd place at the 5 th Annual Oconee RESA STEM Fair.
Their project, an automated windsock, will be used inside the classroom on the
Aviation Pathway to help classmates understand wind direction and its relation to
the takeoff and landing of airplanes.
The students wrote a code with C++, and after so many trials and errors, have
landed on an optimal prototype, using an Arduino R4 Board. Pretty much, the code
allows the board to read wind direction from the internet and move a rotor engine,
giving precise and automated information inside the classroom. Knowing where
the wind is coming from is crucial information for every future pilot, as airplanes
land and take off against the wind, and nothing better than sharpening that skill
inside the classroom.
