1. Evaluate the number of at risk drivers. Currently our department has 4
drivers that fall under the at risk category. All 4 drivers have no issue with
returning to work.
2. Our department has 7 sub drivers. 2 sub drivers need to cover a route in
an ordinary year because we are short 2 route drivers. 5 sub drivers are
readily available to cover in the event a route driver becomes ill or we
need to add additional routes.
3. Our department currently has 18 Type C buses and 1 Type A minibus. We
also have 4 minivans, 2 suburbans and 1 car which are all considered Type
III school buses. All of these vehicles except the car could be used to
transport students if needed. The Type III school buses could be operated
by certified Type III drivers that do not have a school bus endorsement.
4. All staff and students must wear a face covering unless it is determined a
hazard to do so. Extra face coverings will be available in each vehicle in
case someone forgets one.
5. Each vehicle will have hand sanitizer available for staff and students.
6. All staff and students using school transportation must conduct a
symptom screening prior to operating or riding in a school vehicle.
Symptom screening must be documented.
7. 6 feet of distancing is required between the driver and the riders. In a bus
this means leaving the seats directly behind the driver empty. In a van or
a suburban the students must be in the back seat and avoid the middle
seat. It is a recommendation for in-person learning for students to remain
6 feet apart but it is not a requirement.
8. All vehicles will be disinfected after each route. All buses will return to
the bus garage after morning route and will be disinfected using a
combination of wiping seats and handles and using an electrostatic
sprayer that is filled with a hydrogen peroxide/distilled water solution.
The buses will carry a spray bottle with the peroxide solution to spray
down the high touch areas and seats after their afternoon routes.
9. Weather permitting, vehicles will try to run with windows and vents open
to encourage max air flow.
10. We will encourage assigned seating to ease contact tracing should
someone become ill.
11. The transportation department will encourage reduced capacities to help
with social distancing when it is feasible. Our target capacity will be 20
students per bus.
12. Routes will be determined once the transportation department has a
total number of students needing school transportation.
13. Students will be allowed one pickup and drop off spot.
14. All minivans will be available should a student become ill during the
school day. The student must ride in the back seat with a mask on. The
vehicle will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected upon returning to the
bus garage. The driver must wear gloves and a mask when cleaning and
will be compensated for their time.
If you require bussing please indicate it on our in-person registration.
Due to COVID and capacity restrictions, we can only guarantee each family a single address for bus pickup and a single address for drop-off at this time. We need to be able to minimize the potential for exposure to COVID by allowing students to only ride a single bus route. This may change as the COVID executive orders are lifted but for now we are recommending that families try to find alternative methods for getting to school. If you have questions regarding transportation, please contact the transportation department at 218-694-6122.
