For Families

FAMILIES

Whether your child's path includes distance learning, learning at school, or somewhere in between, we recognize the vital role families play in their child's education. This page includes valuable information for families to navigate the transition back to school. We strive to keep our communication with families positive, trustworthy, respectful, and transparent. If you need further details or information after reading through the information on this page, please contact your child's school.

District Communications

Every Tuesday the district will post an update on our website/app. We will reserve the Bagley Messaging System for emergency use only to families via text, and occasionally by phone call or email. If you are not receiving messages please verify your information in ParentVue or contact your child's school.

Health Screening

Daily Wellness Self-Screen: Bagley Public Schools will utilize passive screening practices at all sites. Every student is expected to self-monitor for new symptoms of COVID-19 each day before arriving on site. Employees and visitors will use an on site MDH Daily Self-Screening Tool. Anyone should stay home or go home if exhibiting a new cough and/or shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, or two or more of the following symptoms with no other diagnosis to explain them:

  • fever of 100.4°F or greater

  • chills and a repeated shaking with chills

  • muscle pain

  • headache

  • sore throat

  • loss of taste or smell

If the symptom arises during the day the parent will be contacted for an immediate pick up.

Masks

Bagley Schools follows the current recommendations from MDH/MDE regarding face coverings and social distancing protocols for students, staff, and visitors. All students, employees, and visitors are expected to wear face coverings in district buildings. See MDH guidance on the use of face coverings and the ISD 162 Mask FAQ for further info. Students are highly encouraged to bring their own face covering, but the school district will provide one reusable cloth mask to each student.

Per the governor's executive order, all K-12 students are required to wear masks in the school setting and on the bus.

Students are expected to wear a face covering:

  • Upon entering a district building and until an exempt activity commences;

  • When walking in common areas like lobbies, hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, and cafeterias:

  • When unable to maintain minimum social distancing of 6 feet.

All staff and students, in accordance with the state mandate, will need to wear a mask unless they have a doctor's note or as indicated on a student's IEP/504.

Visitors to district buildings will be asked to wear a face covering.

Student Drop Off & Pick Up

Each morning, parents are encouraged to review health screening information with their child.

  • There are designated doors for entering and exiting the building.

  • Buildings are closed to visitors at this time with the exception of parents/guardians who have scheduled meetings with building staff in advance.

  • Hand sanitizing options are available for parents/students to use as they enter the building.

  • If medications need to be dropped off, they will need to be in a sealed bag with medical providers orders and our form giving permission.

Bussing & Transportation

If you require bussing please indicate it on our in-person registration.

Due to COVID and capacity restrictions, we can only guarantee each family a single address for bus pickup and a single address for drop-off at this time. We need to be able to minimize the potential for exposure to COVID by allowing students to only ride a single bus route. This may change as the COVID executive orders are lifted but for now we are recommending that families try to find alternative methods for getting to school. If you have questions regarding transportation, please contact the transportation department at 218-694-6122.

Social Emotional Learning

One of the most important practices we promote in our district focuses on Social and Emotional learning, and the effect a positive school climate has on our well being. In fact, one of our Continuous Improvement goals focuses specifically on the Climate and Culture of our district. Positive Action has some great social emotional learning resources that would be beneficial to everyone--students, parents, staff and the community.

Students with COVID Symptoms

American Indian Students

The Bagley Public Schools Indian Education Program has been and will continue supporting students, families, and community during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have reached out to the community to assist and minimize any barriers that distance learning may create.

Conservations were initiated when the Indian Education Director attended the White Earth Tribal Council Executive Meeting on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Discussion topics included the safety of our students and families especially those with multi-generational homes and/or elders living in the homes, internet connectivity, how families will obtain food, mental health needs and services, childcare concerns, as well as many other needs. Meeting attendees included the Emergency Management Team, Tribal Education, Boys and Girls Club, and Behavioral Health.

Communication has been open and ongoing, with Indian Education Program staff visiting homes within the Tribal Communities, making contact via phone calls, social media, and text. We are responding to the individual needs of each and every home to the best of our ability.

Students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) will have a Contingency Learning Plan (CLP) to address and individualize their IEP with considerations to: goals and objectives, special education and related services, service delivery methods, accommodations, modifications, and least restrictive environment. Due to the individual nature of special education, this is not an exhaustive list of considerations for every student.

This Contingency Learning Plan will consider and address all three models of instruction: In Person, Hybrid and Distance Learning. These considerations are a comprehensive effort among the entire IEP team, which includes parent input.
