Lodging & Attractions
Venue: Seattle Center (305 Harrison St, Seattle, WA 98109)
- Day 1: McCaw Hall
- Days 2 & 3: Fisher Pavilion
Transportation
Seattle has both a good public transit system (mostly buses) and is relatively easy to walk. You can find details about buses here. There's also a unique Monorail that goes from downtown to Seattle Center (the location of the Global Gathering). And, we have one of the world's most active ferry systems. Finally, we have a whole fleet of free floating bike shares. Most of these are electrified and are obscenely fun to ride. Lime and Jump are the two options. You need a smartphone to sign up and you give them your credit card. You literally ride it to your destination and then leave it parked on the sidewalk.
Getting to-and-from the airport is relatively straightforward. You can take an Uber/Lyft. There's a dedicated pick-up area on the 3rd floor of the parking garage. You can also take the Link Light Rail. It's ~$2.75 from the airport to downtown.
If you are arriving by car we’d suggest the Mercer St. lot.
Attractions
- Seattle Center itself has loads of interesting things onsite (though each requires separate admission). There's the Pacific Science Center, the Chihuly Glass Museum, the Museum of Pop Culture in an undeniably cool building. And, of course the Space Needle. If you look around you can usually find aggregate ticketing sites that will give you access to multiple venues.
- Taking a ferry out to Bainbridge Island or Vashon Island makes for a nice day trek.
- There is great skiing ~45 mins east of Seattle at the Snoqualmie Summit. Downhill, backcountry, and nordic options abound.
- Hiking! Yes, lots and lots of hiking.
- Other museums include the Living Computer Museum, the Museum of History & Industry, the Burke, Frye *free admission always*, and Seattle Art Museum
- The Seattle Central Library is quite interesting architecturally
- Emerald City Comicon will be happening the 14th - 17th in Seattle. It is internationally renowned. Please DO still come to the Global Gathering though!
- Spontaneous evening trips are sure to be organized - perhaps to some of Seattle's dive-iest bars
Food & Meals
- Meals during the Global Gathering will be on your own. There are many options nearby the venue. We will have coffee each morning.
- Seattle's culinary landscape is diverse and rich. Some regional specialties include salmon, oysters, wine, locally made beers, and fully legalized marijuana. March is also the time for nettles. A handful of restaurants may have tea or soups made with them.
Weather
- Typical weather in March will be unpredictable at best. Chances are the weather will hover between 45 - 55 F (7.5 - 12.5 C). It will likely be damp - if not rainy. Though there's always the chance for some sunlight. If the sun does come out, rush outside, find a high point, and go watch the mountains for a little bit. Anyone local can point you in a good direction. One of the city's best views on a clear day is from Kerry Park (~20 min walk uphill from the venue).
