Exciting New School Year Unfolds with Diverse Learning Opportunities at
Altar Valley Middle School
As the new school year gets underway, students are eagerly settling back into the rhythm of daily routines, embracing the challenges and joys of growing and learning. This year promises to be a remarkable one, packed with opportunities that go beyond the traditional academic experience.
Students will dive into a wide array of subjects, including career exploration, physical education, reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. While academics remain a cornerstone of the educational experience, the school is equally committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals. This holistic approach ensures that students develop not only intellectually but also socially - learning how to reach their goals!
One of the highlights of this year is the SOAR Period, held every Friday. SOAR stands for Safe, Open-Minded, Accountable, and Respectful. This designated time encourages students to reflect on their role in their education and personal growth. It is a time designed to reinforce the values that help shape responsible and thoughtful individuals, empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey.
Beyond the regular school day, students have access to the 21st Century After School Program, which offers a wide range of additional opportunities. After-school activities include tutoring, flag football, volleyball, cooking, Lego robotics, performing arts, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), and board games. These programs are designed to help students discover new interests, develop teamwork skills, and enhance their creativity.
In the coming months, students at Altar Valley Middle School will have the opportunity to share their experiences both in and out of the classroom as contributing members of the Fence Post.. They will not only discuss what they are learning academically but also reflect on how the world around them is shaping their perspectives and personal growth. Through these shared stories, students will explore the connections between their education and the broader world, highlighting the ways in which their learning experiences are influenced by and contribute to their understanding of global and local issues.
We are excited about the possibilities this year holds. Our goal is to foster an environment where students feel confident to take risks, explore new ideas, and learn from their experiences. SOAR Hour is just one example of how we are working to build not only strong students but also strong character."
