Facilitating Choral Music with the Homeless

Evie S.

Homeless people need a better way to connect to themselves and the community. I want to do this through creating music and a choir for the homeless.

I am addressing the homeless population and concern of not having joy in their lives. I want to hopefully one day create a choir, but currently I am only promoting the need.

My idea is unique and innovative, because through research I could tell that the homeless population had been recognized for needing happiness through art but not music. Also singing is something we all have.

Process:

  • generated idea (love music)
  • reached out to other homeless choirs(Dallas)
  • Pin pointed where to start (Trinity Streets)
  • Corona killed my palms
  • More time I would go to Trinity street and start it up

Through the process, I learned a lot about the homeless population and what's already out there for them. Also just about Innov8 that your first idea is not necessarily the best.

Food Drive

Rex R.

I created a food drive for the Central Texas Food Bank. I emailed Mrs. Weiss a few days before the Trinity spirit parade saying that I wanted to start a food drive. We emailed back and forth about the logistics, and I made signs for the food drive. We collected a lot of food and we delivered it to the Central Texas Food Bank. We got over a thousand pounds of food to help those in need during the coronavirus.

I think that the food drive was very helpful and successful. I was happy that I decided to take action and start this food drive. People at Trinity were very generous, and I couldn’t have done it without them. I might do this again, but probably not at Trinity.
