DesignFest 2016-17

Design: Play!

Engineering Joy in Learning

The DesignFest 2017 theme was “Design Play: Engineering Joy in Learning.” As its name suggested, students designed educational games and/or playscapes (aka learningscapes) to teach people skills and concepts while physically interacting with them.

DF Friday Assembly Slideshow

Dates/Volunteers: The design process began in the classrooms on March 6 (with a special preview for the Lower School on Feb. 28’s TALL Tuesday) and culminated in a day of building and celebration on Friday, March 10th, when creativity and the excitement of new ideas-in-the-making vibrated through the halls. Volunteers assisted on March 10th in the “Marketplaces” (where students spend their point budget to acquire recycled building materials) and “Fabrication Stations” (where they can request help cutting and bonding materials.)

Building materials drive:

"We need prototyping materials! Please consider donating your recycle-bin-bound materials like cardboard, plastic bottle caps, paper towel rolls, packing peanuts, and foam or craft-drawer clutter like ribbons, buttons, yarn, fabric swatches... even unwanted wooden blocks or dominoes. A collection bin is set up in Unity Hall reception area in January."
