GREEN TEAM

About Our Green Team

The Green Team is a group of students and adults committed to maintaining and improving our campus's eco-friendliness. We love our planet Earth and want to make it cleaner, greener, and healthier.

We meet every month in the library. We take walk abouts in the neighborhood (such as to Cherrywood Green or Willowbrook Reach) to make observations and to help pick up litter. We take field trips (such as to Women & Their Work Art Gallery to see an exhibit created with plastic bags) to learn more about our planet and its resources. We brainstorm ways to help our campus (such as by composting and recycling more and increasing wildlife habitat outside). We also celebrate and educate (such as by hosting Earth Day events).

Not all plastic is recyclable!

Did you know our district has a zero waste goal in combination with the city of Austin? Every AISD elementary school has industrial composting and recycling! See our educational slideshow for more information.

We won a Bright Green Futures Grant in 2017 so we could improve our campus composting and recycling procedures. Now, every classroom, the cafeteria, the main hallways, and the teachers' lounge should all have 3 bins, side-by-side, arranged L-C-R:
