About Ms. Braziel

I am thrilled to have served as Maplewood Elementary School's librarian for the past 6 years. I taught 5th grade language arts, science, and social studies at Maplewood from 2001-2007. After taking a year of parenting leave with my son, Hollis, I had the pleasure of serving students, staff, and parents for 5 years as the librarian at Blackshear Elementary School. I absolutely love working in education, and being a school library media specialist in my neighborhood public school is my dream job!

In addition to hosting weekly story times and check-outs for students in pre-K through 5th grade, each year I host special events, such as a Bluebonnet Book Voting Luncheon, authors' visits, puppet shows, Earth Day celebrations, Read Across America celebrations, Screen-Free Week, thematic literacy events and book distributions, book fairs, and technology-based professional development for staff and parents. I also work with small groups of students on research and technology projects as well as lunchtime book clubs with upper grade students.

I'm happily married to the love of my life, Billy Holleman. We have two sons: 12-year-old Hollis and 9-year-old Franklin and one 6-year-old miniature Australian Shepherd named Paisley. We live in a little house in Cherrywood and enjoy biking, hiking, seeing live music, dancing, swimming at Deep Eddy, reading, traveling, and visiting the Austin Public Library branches for story times and puppet shows during the summer, doing yoga, visiting with friends and family, and just generally enjoying this beautiful planet.

My degrees and certifications:

School Library Certification from University of North Texas 2007-2008

M.Ed., Curriculum & Instruction from Southwest Texas State University 2001

ESL Generalist Certification 2001

B.S., Speech Communication from University of Texas at Austin 1996
