Be Part of the Music

We are so excited that you're interested in learning more about being Part of the Music here at YMLA!

We've prepared a special website for you to visit that is full of information about the different instruments you can choose, some of the benefits of being Part of the Music, and how to let us know that you're interested in making music with us next year.

The most important thing we want you to remember is that if learning an instrument looks like fun, JUST TRY IT! We will teach you everything you need to know and will help you every step of the way. It can be challenging, but... YOU CAN DO IT!

What you'll find on our Beginner Music Website:

If you scroll through the main page, you'll find information about:

  • The impact of music education on children

  • What is Band?

  • What is Orchestra?

  • Instrument Demonstrations

  • Parent & Student Interviews

  • Instrument Matching Tool

  • Interest Form

All new music students will complete the Instrument Matching Tool the first week of school, if they have not completed it before that point - if you're ready to do it now, you can get ahead of the game!

**Important: If you are interested in joining the Guitar Program, please just let us know in the comments box on the Instrument Matching Tool - Guitar is not included in the instrument choices, but we DO offer classical guitar at YMLA**

So... I know I want to be in a music class. What should I do?

STEP ONE:

Decide what music class you'd like to join. In addition to our Beginner Music Website, we've listed the answers to some of the common questions we receive on our FAQ page. We are also happy to answer any questions you have if you send us a message via our Contact page.

STEP TWO:

Please send us an email via our Contact page with the following information, so we can pass along your request to our wonderful school counselors:

  • Parent Name

  • Student Name

  • Student ID Number

  • Student Grade Level (for next year)

  • Desired Music Class (Band, Orchestra, or Guitar)

  • Phone Number (so the counselors can contact you, if needed)

  • If your son is going into the 6th grade, it is helpful for us to know what elementary school he was enrolled at last year
