Citations, bibliographies, etc

LIST YOUR SOURCES!

In a research paper, the list of sources used is listed at the end of the paper.

  • In an MLA style paper, this list is called a Works Cited page.
  • In an APA style paper, this list is called a Reference page.

CREATE CITATIONS!

For books and website sources, use a web-based citation creator such as Easybib.com or Bibme.org. Register for an account on either site. You will be able to input your sources and create a citation, and then generate a Works Cited or Reference page and save it in Word format. You can use either of these sites for several projects at once.

COPY and PASTE CITATIONS!

Articles from online databases usually have pre-made citations listed at the end (another good reason to use these sources!). You can copy the citation and use the PASTE SPECIAL>PASTE UNFORMATTED option in the top left of the Word menu to insert pre-made citations from a database into your Works Cited page. There is a formatted MLA format Works Cited page available in the SHARED>STUDENTS drive in the Library Info folder. Just save it into your own student drive.

PARENTHETICAL CITATIONS

Within your paper, there should be references to the sources used. This is called creating parenthetical citations.
